Here is a quick pastel portrait I put together of Adam Driver (one of the many husband’s I have in the harem in my mind) as an example of what we’ll be learning in the class.
Last Saturday was the open house for the new Handmade Philly space at Tulpehocken Exchange in Germantown, Philadelphia. My holiday silhouette class was the inaugural art class in the space. We had a great group of people in a relaxed, fun setting. I taught them how to cut paper silhouettes freehand using their eyes to dictate what they saw, how to mount their silhouettes. I demonstrated a silhouette cutting with one of the class participants as a model. Some class members made their portraits by having other class members sit for them while others used photos. Everyone ended up with a matted silhouette to take home! Check out the slideshow below for photos of the class and a flyer for upcoming classes.
A few weeks ago I taught a still life painting class at the library where I work. I set up a still life with a cornucopia, maize, faux leaves, and decorative gourds and pumpkins. Class members were equipped with acrylic paint and 11×14 canvases. Some people had some painting experience. Others had previously painted, but on furniture. Everyone that attended raved about how relaxing and fun the class was. One person even told me a few days later that she cried tears of happiness because she loved the class so much!
Below are photos from the class. Keep your eyes peeled for future classes!
I recently announced that I was partnering with Handmade Philly at a new physical arts space in Germantown, Philadephia to teach art classes. Today I had a chance to visit the space for the first time. Tuplehocken Exchange is a new space that houses a dance studios, art studios, and the new space for Handmade Philly. I met some of the lovely women who are working hard to make the new space come together.
The space itself is in a storied stone building. It is near the old Germantown High School and down the street from a big, beautiful Unitarian church. Check out the slideshow of the building and space below!
And an update on registering for classes! If you’re interested in any of the classes I’m offering email firstname.lastname@example.org Below is a flyer with for the winter classes I’m offering including a silhouette class, acrylic painting, watercolor card making, and pastel portraiture.

I was invited to bring the silhouette class I’ve done for one of the local Delaware libraries across the border to Maryland. It was a lovely drive down 95 South to Cecil County Library: Rising Sun Branch. The library is situated in Rising Sun, Maryland. The space was cozy, but open. The environment felt warm and inviting. Both the library staff and patrons were amicable and receptive. In other words, the perfect climate for a fun art program. Learning silhouette cutting can have a bit of a learning curve. I was pleasantly surprised how well everyone did given it was their first time attempting cut paper portraiture. More importantly, they had fun while doing it. We ended the Valentine’s Day themed session with a sweet treat- chocolate candy hearts.
Thank you Cecil County Library: Rising Sun Branch!
I have two fantastic art programs I’m bringing to local northeast libraries. And because they’re offered through the public library they’re FREE.
