Pastel Portrait Class, New Show in Newark, and Chinchilla Love

Pastel Portrait Class

Today I taught a pastel portrait class for beginners at Tulpehocken Exchange. It was the perfect activity for a rainy Saturday afternoon. It was an intimate group with creative folks including musicians and a sculptor. I taught them some basics using dry pastel and offered tips on facial proportions, color, the blending vs. texture balance, and various methods of achieving different styles. Pastels are a great way to get vivid, painterly affects. They’re a wonderful step into painting. (Or use on their own.) Check out the slideshow below to see photos from the class.

Chinchilla Floral
Those who know me in person know that I have 2 ornery chinchillas that I love to pieces. I created this small watercolor painting of a chinchilla floral print. It’s now available on Society6 on phone cases pillows, travel mugs, stickers, and other projects. Personally, I think it’s perfect to show your chinchilla love with a snazzy phone case. New Arts Space in Germantown, Philadelphia!

Classes

I recently announced that I was partnering with  Handmade Philly at a new physical arts space in Germantown, Philadephia to teach art classes. Today I had a chance to visit the space for the first time. Tuplehocken Exchange is a new space that houses a dance studios, art studios, and the new space for Handmade Philly. I met some of the lovely women who are working hard to make the new space come together.

IMG_5516The space itself is in a storied stone building. It is near the old Germantown High School and down the street from a big, beautiful Unitarian church. Check out the slideshow of the building and space below!
